Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
1. About these terms
These terms govern your use of Portool, a vessel arrival alert service ("we", "us", "our"), based in England. By creating an account or using Portool, you agree to these terms.
If you have any questions, contact us at hello@portool.io
2. The service
Portool monitors vessel positions using live AIS (Automatic Identification System) data and sends email alerts when a tracked vessel arrives at a specified target port. We poll vessel positions every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day.
AIS data is sourced from third-party providers. While we work with reliable data partners, vessel position data is dependent on AIS signal availability, which can vary by vessel and location. Portool is designed to complement your existing logistics processes.
3. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, contact us immediately at hello@portool.io.
Accounts are intended for business use. You must be at least 18 years old to register.
4. Free trial
All new accounts include a 14-day free trial with access to up to 2 vessels. No credit card is required. At the end of the trial, you can upgrade to a paid plan to continue tracking. Unused trial days do not carry over.
5. Paid plans and billing
Paid plans are billed monthly in advance in GBP. Payment is processed securely by Stripe — we do not store your card details. Your subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled.
You can cancel at any time via the billing portal in your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you retain full access until then.
We will give 30 days notice by email before any price changes take effect.
6. Refund policy
We stand behind Portool. If you are not satisfied within the first 30 days of your paid subscription, contact us at hello@portool.io and we will issue a full refund. After 30 days, payments are non-refundable except where required by applicable law.
7. Acceptable use
Portool is a professional tool intended for legitimate freight forwarding and logistics use. You agree to use the service lawfully and not to attempt to reverse engineer, scrape or disrupt the platform, share account credentials, or use the service for any purpose that violates applicable law. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that breach these terms.
8. Limitation of liability
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Portool is limited to the total fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability for matters that cannot be excluded by law, including death or personal injury caused by negligence or fraud.
9. Intellectual property
Portool and all associated software, design and content is owned by us. You retain full ownership of the vessel data you input into Portool.
10. Termination
You may close your account at any time. If we ever discontinue the service, we will provide at least 30 days notice and a pro-rata refund for any unused paid period.
11. Changes to these terms
We will notify you by email at least 30 days before any material changes to these terms take effect. Continued use of Portool after that point constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
